Project Overview

This project involved a comprehensive low voltage electrical infrastructure installation designed to enhance local network capacity. The works necessitated a combination of precise excavation and cable management across both pedestrian and vehicular areas. Key components included a 9 metre road crossing and the exposure of existing UKPN assets to facilitate new connections.

Technical Specifications and Scope

The technical delivery was split into several distinct phases to ensure minimal disruption and maximum structural integrity.

Excavation and Ducting

A 9 metre road crossing was excavated to accommodate 1 x 150mm LV duct along with a spare duct for future proofing. This was complemented by a 3 metre trench within the footway for an additional 1 x 150mm LV duct. All ducting was installed to meet UKPN depth and bedding requirements to ensure long term protection under varying load conditions.

Joint Bay Construction

A strategic joint bay was excavated within the footway to expose the existing UKPN 0.3Al PILC (Paper Insulated Lead Covered) cable. Working with PILC assets requires specific expertise due to the nature of the insulation and the age of the infrastructure. The bay provided the necessary space for safe jointing and integration into the current network.

Cable Pull and Finalisation

Following the successful installation of the containment, a 40 metre LV cable pull was executed. This length accounted for the transitions between the footway, the road crossing, and the final connection points within the joint bay.
